Compliance Coordinator (Transmission NERC PRC)

Reports to: Georgia Power Company Power Delivery Compliance Manager

Location: Georgia Power Corporate Office, Atlanta, GA (see note below)

This position will be filled as an Exempt position with the level dependent upon the skills, qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

The NERC Protection and Control (PRC) Compliance Coordinator position will report to the Georgia Power Transmission (PD) Compliance Manager and is responsible for developing strategy, providing expertise, guidance, monitoring, audit coordination, assessments, and associated communications to ensure compliance with NERC Reliability Standards for the GPC Transmission Organization.

The successful candidate must have an understanding of the regulatory environment in which the organization operates and the key regulatory agencies, and should be able to demonstrate specific knowledge in one or more regulatory areas.

Candidates must be able to understand which regulations and policies apply in a given situation, gather information through interviews, observation, review of records, and data analytics, and assess whether GPC Transmission is in compliance. Candidates must be able to clearly articulate their evaluation both verbally and in writing and to clearly document their work consistent with professional standards and departmental practices. Candidates must be able to effectively plan and execute audits or spot checks with minimum direct supervision, working independently or as part of a small team depending on the scope of the review. Candidates are expected to develop process documentation, compliance training modules and guide process enhancements in the Transmission function to which they are assigned.

This position will be located in Atlanta, Ga. Significant time will be spent at GPC HQ and/or Forest Park offices. Occasional travel may be required (e.g. SoCo meetings, SERC conferences, meetings onsite at substations)


Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as the “go to person” in GPC Transmission for PRC and other assigned standards

  • Interface with Subject Matter Experts to monitor compliance activities

  • Develop or update Reliability Standard Audit Worksheet (RSAW) for assigned standards

  • Gather data and coordinate review and approval for Annual Self Certifications on the SERC portal for assigned Standards

  • Perform internal auditing of GPC Transmission’s compliance for assigned standards

  • Review and provide comments for NERC Standard Revisions for assigned standards

  • Participate in NERC and SERC activities, as deemed necessary

  • Closely interact with SCS Operations Compliance departments to report potential non-compliance activities, investigate instances of potential non-compliance, and develop mitigation plans

  • Interface with ITS participants to support their NERC Compliance as necessary

  • Support SoCo Internal Controls program

  • Understand the compliance area under review and apply that knowledge to assist organization in identifying and monitoring regulatory, legal and company requirements.

  • Build and sustain positive relationships with individuals and workgroups across Transmission

  • Manage projects and other assigned responsibilities effectively to meet deadlines

  • Collaborate effectively with the rest of the compliance staff, assisting others where needed, sharing knowledge, and being a team player

  • Develop training modules and help functional area departments to build internal controls for high risk standard requirements



  • 4-year Engineering degree required. Electrical is strongly preferred.

Experience :

Experiences strongly preferred:

  • 4 years of Transmission P&C Field Services

  • Commissioning, testing and troubleshooting substation equipment and protective relaying

  • Work experience supporting compliance-related activities specific to NERC ERO Reliability Standards implementation, monitoring or enforcement.

  • Technical experience in utility operation, planning, design, maintenance, and/or compliance as it relates to PRC or other NERC Reliability Standards

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes:

  • Knowledge of power system protective relay application/settings, control scheme design, and commissioning/maintaining/testing.

  • Strong interpersonal, facilitative, negotiation and presentation skills to effectively communicate, consult and build effective working relationships with senior management, employees, industry peers, Regulatory contacts and contractors.

  • Excellent communications skills (ability to effectively communicate at all levels, both oral and written; presentations skills; present technical information to both technical/non-technical audiences).

  • Understanding of corporate compliance governance processes specific to the energy regulation compliance risk area.

  • The ability to interpret control frameworks and regulations

  • The ability to identify and prioritize risks and assist in the design and execution of management programs and internal controls to effectively manage compliance risks

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Responds well to direction and coaching.

  • Able to contribute to planning and direction-setting activities.

  • Working knowledge of the Integrated Transmission System is desirable.

  • Knowledge of NERC PRC standards.

  • Understands business risk management, internal controls, and governance practices.

  • Understands how to gather and assess information (as done in internal audits, investigations, peer reviews, QA reviews, etc.)
