Reports to: Operations Support Manager

Location: 689 Virginia Avenue, Atlanta, GA

Note: Limited/modified relocation assistance may be provided if needed.


This position is responsible for providing technical leadership and guidance for the Application and Communication Support group within Operations Support. The Application and Communication Support group provides the Georgia Control Center, Distribution Control Centers, and Integrated Transmission System (ITS) participants with custom applications and reports to ensure timely identification and resolution of system issues. Additionally, the group works closely with the Technology Organization (TO) and Southern Company Services Energy Management System (SCS EMS) to develop, resolve, and enhance communications to substation and transmission line remote terminal units (RTUs). Key applications supported by the group are TransMap, ITS Single Line Diagrams, Substation Entry Notification and Tracking (SENT), Substation Operator Time Tasks, Transmission Availability Data System (TADS), EMO, Load Shed (EMS), various Cool Compliance Entities, and other internal applications.


  • Deliver effective performance management for eight direct reports

  • Ensure that team responds in timely manner for routine and after-hour customer needs

  • Ensure that team receives proper growth and development training for current and future roles

  • Model and support employee led safety culture and human performance initiatives

  • Manage relationships with internal and external customers, including the Georgia Control Center (GCC), Distribution Control Centers (DCCs), Energy Management Systems (EMS), Technology Organization (TO), Project Management, Protection & Control Field Services (P&CFS), Substation Integration & Automation (SIA), Distribution Automation (DA), and Integrated Transmission System (ITS) participants. Job Requirements Education:

  • Bachelor or Bachelor of Science Engineering degree preferred

  • Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering degree a plus

  • Advanced degree or PE license a plus Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in the construction, operation, design, planning or maintenance of Transmission and/or Distribution facilities is required.

  • Experience with performance management is a plus

  • Working knowledge of both Transmission and Distribution System Operations is a plus

  • Experience with managing application development is a plus

  • Experience with EMS (Energy Management System), SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), or System Automation is a plus

  • Experience with SCADA communication transport technologies and associated architecture is a plus

  • Experience working with ITS participants is a plus Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
