Southern Company Analyst, Rate in Atlanta, Georgia
Excellent opportunity for achievement and responsibility for work that has significant financial impact and value for Southern Company Gas and its four local distribution companies in Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia and Illinois. The Rates & Tariffs department supports the Company’s regulatory, strategic, marketing, operational and financial goals by developing rates, forecasts and regulatory filing documents accurately and timely, by administering and implementing tariffs and rates correctly and timely, and by defending the Company’s regulatory positions. The Rates Analyst is responsible for calculating and documenting periodic updates to rates and riders as well as supporting major regulatory activities, such as company rate cases. The objective is to produce rates within specific tariff requirements and applicable law that enable the recovery of significant utility costs. The Rates Analyst reports directly to the Manager, Rates and Tariffs Administration.
Prepare rate analyses, schedules, witness testimony, exhibits and data request responses in conjunction with various regulatory processes, including company rate cases.
Implement rates, timely and accurately, by working closely with Accounting, Billing, Information Technology and other departments.
Document and clearly communicate rate changes to other departments, including support for external communication.
Write, review, interpret and apply tariff language relevant to current business processes.
Maintain and thoroughly document processes, models, Excel worksheets, files, tariffs and relevant information.
Respond to internal inquiries for rate comparisons and bill impacts.
Interpret changes in market conditions and numerical data related to tariff charges and communicate the impact of the results.
Support and review economic feasibility study analyses for new business projects.
Support the departments’ analytics, forecasting and regulatory activities, as needed.
Support other activities and ad-hoc requirements in the larger department.
Train other employees and other departments regarding rates activities.
