JOB SUMMARY

This position is to be filled as an exempt level 4 – 5, based on job experience and knowledge. This CSS & Billing Support position maintains Financial functions and technology within the Customer Service System working with business and technology partners to meet business needs. The focus of this position is supporting Southern Company’s PrePay program. We are looking for an individual with a Southern Company business background that has the aptitude to learn technical skills, or an individual who has technical skills that has the aptitude to learn the Southern Company business.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education

BS/BA degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business or related area of concentration preferred

Experience

CSS & Billing Support is seeking a highly inquisitive and analytical individual. The ideal candidate is an individual who is curious, has a thirst for knowledge, enjoys learning, and likes to figure things out. One of the following three knowledge/skill sets are required: 1) Business/CSS (Customer/1), 2) PrePay and/or 3) IT/Analyst/Coding. The candidate pool will determine which candidate with which attribute(s) will be hired. The following are qualifications for each of the attributes:

Business/CSS: Knowledge/Skills

  • Experience with CSS (Customer/1) or a comparable customer billing system (such as CC&B)

  • Revenue Accounting, Call Center, Region, Metering, and/or Service Order experience

  • Experience working in Billing Services, Credit & Collections, Metering Services, and/or Field Services

PrePay: Knowledge/Skills

  • Experience working with PrePay accounts

  • Experience working with PrePay meter data and/or AMI systems

  • Experience with and/or general understanding of the PayGo system

IT/Analyst/Coding: Knowledge/Skills

  • Able to read and analyze code

  • Experience in technical writing/requirements gathering, and test plan development

  • Experience working with and writing SQL in support of relational databases

  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of software development (SDLC)

  • A plus is experience with SAS, JCL, COBOL, DB2, CICS, TSO, MQ or other programming languages

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support PrePay processes end-to-end (from PayGo to CSS to middleware to AMI Network back to CSS and back to PayGo).

  • Collaborate with analysts, designers, and programmers in conceptualizing and development of new software programs and applications that meets or exceeds customer expectations for quality, cost, and timeliness

  • Perform technical tasks, detailed analyses, and interpretation of technical problems requiring expertise and/or specialized knowledge in a systematic manner; apply subject matter expertise unique to the discipline

  • Play a leading role in defining software development project plans, including scoping, scheduling, and implementation

  • Prepare and/or interpret business, functional, and non-functional requirements according to standards and methodologies

  • Provide timely and meaningful communications with business partners, team members, and management

  • Adapt communications with both business partners and technical consultants appropriate to the audience

  • Adhere to Change Management policies and procedures

  • Respond quickly and effectively to all operational problems

  • Assist analysts with resolution of test-related issues

  • Provide on-call support

Other Requirements:

Occasional night and weekend work may be necessary. Occasional travel may be necessary
