Job Summary:

Distribution Planning is the organization in Power Delivery that performs system studies and analysis for Georgia Power Distribution facilities. As part of this process, analysis of the loading and voltage is performed to develop projects to ensure safe and reliable operation of these Distribution facilities. This position would be responsible for Distributed Generation projects in the review and technical support of project studies. This position would work closely with our Renewable, Reliability, Area Planning, Transmission Interconnections, and area Power Delivery teams to ensure a seamless experience for these Renewable Customers.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Distribution Generation (DG) Project Review – Interconnections Agreement Review of Public Service Commission (PSC) approved DG projects

  2. Technical Support of Project Studies

  3. Perform and coordinate system studies, including Load-Rejection Transient Overvoltage (TOV) Analysis, Stiffness Analysis, Integrated Transmission (ITS) Assessment, and Detailed Load Flow Studies, quality review of interconnection facilities design.

  4. Technical review of contracts prior to execution (interconnection agreements and amendments, if needed)

  5. Assist in the preparation and issuance of NESB & procurement of non-stock materials (e.g. fiber optic cable)

  6. Assist in the construction of interconnection facilities (including acquiring railroad and dot permits, encroachment agreements, easements, etc.)

  7. Assist in communications with the Facility Owner regarding energization of tie line, initial synchronization, witness testing, true-up of all costs associated with the interconnection requests

  8. Technical Support in providing a seamless experience for Renewable Customers from start to finish

Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, & Behavioral Attributers):

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or Business is preferred; additional consideration of experience for electric utility industry certifications

  • Minimum 5 years electrical utility distribution experience desired; additional consideration of Power Delivery experience

  • Experience with CymeDist or other Distribution modeling software is helpful

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Strong technical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills

  • Effective at building relationships with cross functional teams

  • Ability to work under deadlines to meet RFP requirements and respond to customer demands

  • Ability to prioritize work effectively, exercise sound judgment, and accurately complete multiple tasks
