Southern Company Energy Project Engineer in Atlanta, Georgia

Description

The Energy Project Engineer conducts engineering work to develop and implement energy efficiency and energy production projects for customer facilities. Projects include energy efficiency upgrades, renewable energy systems, and distributed energy installations. Energy Project Engineer is responsible for conducting and supporting engineering studies, analyses, and project development. Engineer supports awarded mechanical and electrical construction projects from design through implementation. Atlanta, GA is the preferred location for this position with some remote work considered.

Candidate has experience with development and/or implementation of mechanical and electrical system projects in customer facilities. Responsibilities include:

  • site investigations,

  • analyzing energy use,

  • preparing savings calculations,

  • developing cost estimates, and preparing written reports. In addition, the engineer supports engineering and design for implementation of design-build projects.

Candidate must be familiar with facility systems including chilled and hot water systems, air handling systems, building controls, and electrical distribution systems. The engineer works with other EES team members, and interfaces with customers, subconsultants, product vendors, subcontractors, and others to support projects. Candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills, analytical skills, and experience with building mechanical and electrical systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or other qualified technical field. (Other technical qualifications and applicable experience in such fields as: project management, building automation controls, mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems will be considered.)

  • 3-8 years of experience with similar project work preferred, however, will consider candidates with an Engineering degree with less years of work experience/internships, etc.

  • Experience with aspects of energy engineering, including conducting engineering studies, analyzing energy consuming systems, and writing technical reports.

  • Experience with implementation of facility infrastructure projects.

  • Able to travel to customer facilities to conduct building surveys.
