The Executive Communication Manager is responsible for leading a team of communication professionals focused on the development and execution of Georgia Power executive-level communication as well as managing the company’s employee communication channels and platforms. The manager role reports to the Director of Executive and Internal Communication.

The Executive Communication Manager serves as a strategic business partner and principal communication advisor to business units across the enterprise; developing creative internal and external communication materials/plans and ensuring all client communications align with company strategy and branding. This person will support the Director of Executive and Communications with communications needs from the office of the CEO, must have solid experience managing and reporting to C-level executives and be able to handle multiple, diverse projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

The ideal candidate is a thought-leader with proven ability to interact, inform and influence senior leaders on proper and impactful messaging and recommend the most appropriate and effective communication vehicles for individual campaigns. In addition, this person must have the aptitude to understand complex business messages and deliver them to broad internal audiences in an easy-to-comprehend and effective fashion.

This person will be responsible for developing internal/external communication materials, including speeches, talking points, presentations, etc., in support of company executives and issues. As such, the role requires strong writing, copy-editing and PowerPoint presentation skills; the ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities and deadlines. Experience directing graphic designers and knowledge of infographics, developing communication campaigns, producing web videos and web content is a plus.

The successful candidate will be responsible for helping tell the company’s story and building brand ambassadors among employees by managing and driving content across the company’s internal communication channels. Proven experience driving adoption and engagement in internal social media platforms among employees is highly valued.

In addition to writing and presentation development, the candidate will organize internal and external events as needed and be a master at creating messaging for multiple channels, including video, social media platforms, online publications, correspondence and others.

  • 7-10 years previous experience working in a corporate communication or media environment

  • Related undergraduate degree (journalism/mass communications/marketing or public relations)

  • Experience with the electric utility industry a plus

  • Experience developing and implementing integrated communication programs; developing a communications plan that includes research, messaging, employee engagement tools, & social media

  • Experience directly supporting executive or C-level communications

  • Track record of communications-related accountability as a business partner working with and advising senior executives

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas simply and meaningfully to audiences of diverse backgrounds and levels across the organization

  • Highly effective interpersonal, consulting and negotiation skills with a demonstrated ability to work and influence effectively across the organization

  • Demonstrated ability to write for a wide variety of forms – speeches, talking points, presentations, print publications, websites, video, correspondence, magazines, fact sheets, Q&As, customer and other business communications, etc.

  • Successful experience planning, project managing and implementing multidimensional communication projects

  • Role model of unquestionable trust, superior performance, total commitment and commitment to safe work practices

  • Ability to interact and develop relationships with executives at all levels of management; possesses a positive, customer-first attitude

  • Comfort level working under tight deadlines, with the ability to gather information and present recommendations to executives and clients

  • Highly motivated, ability to assess communication needs and drive appropriate responses versus with minimal supervision

  • A collaborative team player who is able to work independently, prioritize work, manage projects, handle details and display organizational and editorial skills

  • Ability to handle tight deadlines, multiple tasks and shifting priorities

  • Strong listening, creative thinking, analytical, problem-solving and relationship-building skills

  • Takes initiative, ownership of assignments and personal responsibility.

  • Expertise in Microsoft Office: Word and PowerPoint and Outlook are required; working knowledge of Excel is a plus

  • Willingness and ability to travel.

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a Corporate Communication point of contact for management council members, including serving as the backup point of contact for the office of the president and CEO

  • Collaborate with department leaders to create high-quality content, including speeches, talking points, presentations, video scripts and other forms of communication in support of management council goals and business unit priorities

  • Interact, inform and influence senior leaders on proper and impactful messaging

  • Ability to understand complex business issues and deliver messages to internal audiences in an easy-to-comprehend and effective manner

  • Research, write, edit, proofread, produce and distribute print, online and video communications to targeted audiences within the company

  • Drive engagement in all employee communication channels with an emphasis on growing the company’s internal social media platform

  • Meet with department subject matter experts to gather pertinent information and obtain clarity regarding goals and objectives, accurate messages and timelines

  • Edit the work of other departments that prepare response to executive materials in draft

  • Proactively partner with internal communication to ensure business unit initiatives are communicated effectively to employees

  • Proactively partner with media relations to identify media opportunities and garner positive coverage throughout the state

  • Advise as to most effective delivery timing, vehicles and tone of communication products

  • Potentially serve as a spokesperson for the company

  • Participate in crisis communication (e.g. storm response)

  • Participate in emergency nuclear communication training and exercises

  • Work with regional leadership and managers to collect and support regional communication initiatives

  • Ensure all communication materials meet company standards and explore new ways to support business units and engage employees

  • Other duties will be assigned.
