Work Location: Georgia Power Corporate Headquarters in Atlanta, GA.

Job Summary

This position will provide overall leadership, direction, and expertise, to an organization that implements Georgia Power’s Power Delivery data strategy. This organization will advance the use of data analytics by developing predictive models to make recommendations that enables Power Delivery to make more informed decisions regarding high-priority initiatives, examples include the deployment of O&M and capital, reliability enhancements, and customer experience improvements. This organization will also use data analytics to develop, implement, and own Georgia Power’s fiber-to-distribution strategy, as well as overall fiber infrastructure support (including rural broadband expansion and fiber COAM investment and expansion). This position will also build relationships with other data organizations within Southern Company to promote alignment of data efforts with the company.

Job Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Business, Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field is required.

  • A master’s degree in a related field and relevant industry certifications are preferred.

  • 5 years of experience in the electric utility business with an understanding of power delivery operations is preferred.

  • Understanding of methodologies in applied statistics, research, and forecasting.

  • Strategic understanding of data infrastructure, including data storage, retrieval, governance and cataloging

  • Experience managing a team of analysts and/or developers to deliver business intelligence solutions is a plus.

  • Working knowledge of industry accepted predictive modeling techniques (e.g. Decision Trees, Neutral Nets, and Linear Regression) coupled with the ability to accurately interpret and present results.

  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills with experience credibly influencing highly technical and executive audiences; the ability to simplify complex subjects and articulate risk in clear business terms.

  • Strategy development and deployment; change management and data literacy transformation included.

  • Proven experience managing technology and general expense budgets.

  • Proven experience in developing and improving an inclusive work environment for all employees.

Major Job Responsibilities

  • Successfully lead an organization that develops and deploys data and analytics strategy including reporting, advances the uses of data analytics, and developing predictive models to make recommendations that enables PD to make more informed decisions regarding high-priority initiatives.

  • Build a team that will utilize analytical expertise with large data sets to implement and continuously improve PD’s data strategy.

  • Implement and continuously improve Georgia Power’s long-term fiber-to-distribution strategy, backed by analytics.

  • Use data from smart devices to enable PD to move from a cycle-based-maintenance philosophy to a condition-based-maintenance philosophy.

  • Use data to continuously improve our system reliability and make recommendations for GRID’s long-term deployment of capital.

  • Use data on Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) deployments in various areas of the business to support key stakeholders in making decisions that can further reduce O&M spending.

  • Identify solutions for data infrastructure, including data storage, retrieval, governance and cataloging

  • Create and manage staffing augmentation contracts

  • Make recommendations on the allocation of funds that puts PD in the best position to improve reliability and decrease O&M expenditures.

  • Assist the Safety organization with analyzing safety observation data (STEP) and trends to recommend targeted training, procedure enhancements and overall mitigation measures to ensure employee safety.

  • Communicate technical information and complex data to non-technical audiences in a logical and concise manner.

  • Spearhead data literacy within Power Delivery organization; creating change management plans that promote data project success

  • Establish external relationships to share best practices and attain industry benchmarks and solutions.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies and seek connections with other leaders within the electric utility industry that are responsible for data analytics within their companies.

  • Attract, develop, and manage a highly effective, diverse workforce of highly skilled, technical employees.
