Property Accountant

Description

The Property Accountant ensures property related transactions are accounted correctly and timely for internal and external reporting purposes. Activities include preparation of monthly journal entries; account reconciliations; support schedules; calculating depreciation expense and closing fixed asset within PowerPlan application; compliance with property related SOX-controls.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly journal entries; account reconciliations; variance analysis; and cash-flow support

  • Maintain property records in PowerPlan application monthly tasks include calculating depreciation expense; closing fixed assets; updating work order status; retiring assets; adding locations and other updates as needed.

  • Review administer and approve capital projects for accounting appropriateness

  • Monitor capital charges to ensure adherence to company capitalization policy

  • Serve as subject matter expert by providing accounting guidance to both accounting and non-accounting co-workers to resolve capital related transactions

  • Provide support for quarterly audits; SEC data requests; and tax schedules

  • Ensure internal controls and surrounding responsibilities are adequate

  • Respond to periodic and/or ad hoc requests related to fixed assets and depreciation

  • Create annual budget and periodic reforecasts for depreciation expense

  • Participate in periodic testing related to the PowerPlan and other applications

Candidates with the following preferred qualifications are encouraged to apply:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent is required

  • CPA license or equivalent is preferred

Experience

  • 5 years experience is required

  • Experienced in working with Accounting ERP applications is preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Understanding of GAAP, FERC and SEC and other rules, regulations and reporting requirements as well as Company policies and guidelines is required

  • Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and meet deadlines

  • Effective oral and written communication skills
