The Georgia Power Company Physical Security Operations Center is a 24/7/365 operation.*
The Security Specialist works 12 hour rotating shifts. These shifts will require working nights, weekends and holidays.
The Georgia Power Company Security Specialist will be responsible for monitoring a wide range of highly technical, networked physical and electronic security technologies from Georgia Power Company’s Physical Security Operations Center. Additionally, the Security Specialist will monitor security technology deployed by some of the company’s business partners in defense of identified sites throughout the Southern Company enterprise.
The Security Specialist will proactively conduct scheduled and random security patrols of a high-security, low-profile campus, monitor and respond to requests for security services, screen all visitors, and maintain situational awareness of the campus and its curtilage. The Security Specialist will serve as an armed Corporate Security first responder at their primary work location.
The Security Specialist will conduct limited, preliminary investigations, as appropriate, into security incidents, access control issues, or concerns and ensure that they are properly documented and communicated through the Corporate Security chain of command in a timely and thorough manner. The Security Specialist will complete periodic in-service training to ensure operational readiness and to remain in compliance with the State of Georgia Secretary of States Office security licensing requirements.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or GED.
Two to four years prior experience in corporate security, private security, law enforcement, or military desired.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Working knowledge of CCURE 9000 or similar Access Control Systems is helpful.
Working knowledge of Avigilon Control Center or similar Video Management System is helpful
Prior experience working in a Security Operations Center or control room environment is helpful.
Ability to build positive team relationships with peers.
Demonstrated understanding of security concepts and sophisticated security technologies helpful.
Understanding of NERC CIP-006 and CIP-014 security standards is helpful.
Must pass a pre-employment firearms qualification course.
Must pass psychological testing and successfully enroll and remain in Southern Company’s Insider Threat Program.
Must possess a current, valid driver’s license.
Ability to obtain and remain appropriately licensed through the Georgia Secretary of State – Board of Private Detectives and Security Agencies. Successful bi-annual qualification with all company issued firearms is required.
Work under high stress and shifting priorities with an appropriate degree of urgency.
Appropriately handle and protect sensitive, confidential information and intelligence.
Work independently to achieve results with minimal supervision.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitor various alarm and camera platforms to detect intrusions, suspicious activity, threats, or other safety/security issues at Georgia Power Company locations.
Monitors alarm and camera platforms to detect intrusions, suspicious activity, sabotage, or other issues at highly regulated, critical infrastructure facilities while remaining in compliance with applicable NERC CIP Physical Security Standards.
Assess urgency of incidents or threats, respond appropriately, then prepares and briefs Security Leadership as appropriate.
Maintain proficiency with critical thinking skills to identify and assess suspicious activity, intelligence, and security incidents at company facilities and assets.
Monitor security and crime trends at company locations and elsewhere throughout the energy industry.
Collect and analyze critical, time sensitive research and data regarding serious incidents and threats impacting energy infrastructure.
Staff all security posts to prevent unauthorized personnel and contraband from entering the campus.
Assist with the coordination of scheduled and randomized security checks of campus perimeter.
Routinely review security documentation, regulatory standards, and internal procedures and protocols to ensure continued proficiency with job responsibilities.
This position has been identified as a role that will require the use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle. The following will be required if you are selected for this position:
Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience (Must hold a valid driver’s license for the class vehicle to be operated. Driving permits are not typically considered a valid driver’s license).
Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application, no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
