Engineering Representative – Augusta Distribution Area Georgia Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company, is currently seeking an Engineering Representative for the Augusta area in Georgia.

WORK LOCATION: 2103 N. Leg Rd, GA 30909 Relocation assistance is available

SUMMARY:

This position will be required to handle all of the day-to-day engineering work activities in an assigned area. Responsibilities include service design, estimating, and coordinating construction for multiple overhead and underground residential, new business and other construction projects. Candidate must provide superior customer service and be able to prepare and schedule construction of jobs to meet committed service dates. Candidate will write and execute switching orders to effectively maintain, operate, and assist in the distribution planning of the system for reliability. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for processing all documentation in accordance with SOX and Compliance requirements. Other duties will include handling customer inquiries (voltage complaints, claims, etc.) and assisting with Distribution compliance and asset management programs.

Candidate must live within or be able to quickly relocate within a reasonable commuting distance to the assigned operating headquarters. Successful candidate must also be able to respond quickly to after-hours trouble call and storm work. Relocation assistance is available.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

2-year technical degree OR 4-year degree in a non-technical field, OR EUT Certificate with 2 years of power utility experience highly preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of 2 years of Distribution and/or related Engineering experience with a power utility company strongly preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated knowledge, design and operation of electric distribution systems preferred.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to monitor Distribution Goals and Indicators, as well as implement Best Practices.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Distribution System Applications (i.e. GIS/Designer/Mapping Applications, EDEN, Material / Labor Estimating Systems, NJUNS).

  • Previous experience as an Engineer Representative or demonstrated equivalent skills in a power utility company preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to accept greater responsibility and manage distribution planning for service area preferred.

  • Prior experience in writing and executing electric system switching orders preferred.

  • Knowledge of electrical system operations, distribution systems, underground and overhead construction practices preferred.

  • Candidate should possess knowledge of general engineering and construction principles.

  • Knowledge of MS office products and other related engineering Software systems preferred.

  • Experience in handling customer claims and Property Damage process is a plus.

  • Ability to prioritize and organize work.

  • Excellent project management skills that lead to desired results.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines.

  • Ability to work with customers and others as a team member.

  • Proven effective oral and written communication skills.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be available for emergency assistance after work hours and weekends.

  • Must be available for extended out-of-town Storm duty outside service area. Candidate must be available for "on-call" supervisor rotation.

  • Valid driver's license required.

  • Must have a safe work record and follow safe work practices for a Target Zero environment as defined by Southern Company/Georgia Power policies.   • Must be able to effectively communicate and build positive relationships with customers, engineers, customer service, sales, corporate partners and line crew personnel.
