Job Summary

This position is an integral part of a team that performs daily accounting, billing, budgeting, and financial activities of the Pooled Inventory Management (PIM) department of Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC).

The PIM program provides a mechanism for utilities throughout the United States to jointly procure and store nuclear generating unit equipment items which are very expensive and have such a low probability of failure that it is not effective for utilities to individually stock them. The PIM program functions through Pooled Equipment Inventory Company (PEICo), which holds title to the equipment.

We currently have an Accountant position available at Southern Nuclear Headquarters in Birmingham, AL (Highway 280 and I-459).

Position Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting.

  • Minimum of 2 years of recent accounting experience is preferred.

  • Knowledge of the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  • Strong interpersonal skills in dealing with people at all levels throughout the organization.

Position Responsibilities

  • Perform daily accounting functions such as billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable journal entries, posting of accounts, and projections.

  • Participate in the preparation of the PEICo Annual Plan and Budget.

  • Participate in the annual audit by independent auditor and implement recommendations with respect to the books, systems and controls.

  • Provide information for the preparation of PEICo’s tax filings for Federal, Alabama, Tennessee, and Delaware returns.

  • Communicate with PEICo utility members and contractors regarding financial aspects of the PIM program.

  • Reconciliation of PEICo bank accounts.

  • Responsible for adherence to PEICo Accounting Procedures.
