Description

Hangar Attendants provide a wide range of support activities for the operation, including passenger assistance during departures and arrivals; ground handling, servicing and cleaning aircraft; facility maintenance and upkeep; and other duties to assist operations and maintenance personnel.

Job Responsibilities

The Hangar Attendant is responsible for preparing System aircraft for flights. This includes the cleaning and maintenance of System aircraft, ground support equipment, and hangar spaces.

The Hangar Attendant must be able to safely move and direct aircraft and supervise aircraft fueling. They must be educated and trained in the following:

  • Chemicals used to clean aircraft.

  • Aircraft ground emergencies.

  • Fire prevention and emergency response.

Provide for safe, efficient operation of ground support equipment in movement of aircraft.

  • Safe operation of mechanical towing equipment

  • Thorough knowledge of towing equipment and its limitations

  • Thorough knowledge of taxi and turning limitations of all aircraft and chocking procedures

  • Thorough knowledge and monitoring of fueling operations to include fire code and local safety practices

  • Stand guard at refueling and attend the fire extinguisher during aircraft refueling

  • Effective security of hangar and offices

  • Timely meeting of arriving aircraft with thoughtful efficient parking directions

Perform a variety of general service functions to include aircraft, hangar, offices and grounds

  • Assure aircraft are serviced and cleaned in accordance with established procedures and schedules

  • Assure ground support equipment and other equipment is maintained in clean, safe operation

  • Clean hangar, offices and ramp areas in accordance with established procedures

  • Maintain knowledge of proper chemical use and associated safety procedures

  • Maintain knowledge of hangar supplies (inventory control)

Job Requirements

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Certification: Airframe and Powerplant A&P Certification preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be a self-starter, able to work under minimal supervision

  • Must be a cooperative team player

  • Must accept flexible schedules including; early mornings, late evenings, weekend work and overnight travel

  • Must have good communication skills

  • Must be able to interact appropriately with executive level customers

  • Must have general working knowledge with Microsoft Office Products (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook)

Other Requirements and Shift Responsibilities

Early/Morning Shift includes and is not limited to:

  • Open facility for the day; unlock doors, lights on, deactivate security system, etc.

  • Check flight schedule on all aircraft for the day

  • Make coffee and check stock in downstairs kitchen

  • Check the aircraft for cleanliness; wash aircraft, vacuum, clean windshield, service lavatory, etc.

  • Put coffee and ice on all aircraft leaving in the morning. Check snacks, napkins etc. and restock as necessary

  • Check hangar floor for oil and fuel spills. Scrub floors once or twice each week or more if necessary. Sweep floors in hangar as necessary. Empty hangar trash as necessary

  • Monitor flight schedule for planes arriving and departing. Assist flight crews and passengers with baggage, refueling and overall cleanliness of aircraft. Provide transportation for crew and/or passenger to mass transit, rental car and lodging

  • Monitor refueling of aircraft. Maintain fuel in crew cars and ground support equipment

  • Maintain and cut grass at facility. Check parking lot and ramp area for cleanliness

  • Assist aircraft coordinators when necessary

  • Check transient aircraft that are at the facility for cleanliness. Wash, vacuum, dust as necessary

  • Monitor cleaning supplies levels and order when appropriate

  • Monitor hangar, kitchen and conference room's supplies. Restock and purchase as needed

Late/Afternoon - Evening Shift includes and is not limited to:

  • Meet with morning Hangar Attendant to discuss status of aircraft, flight schedule, pick up and deliveries. General daily operational communication is needed. Future planning and prioritizing of upcoming events and or duties must also be discussed.

  • Check flight schedule on all aircraft for the day

  • Check and make coffee as necessary and check stock in downstairs kitchen

  • Check the aircraft for cleanliness; wash aircraft, vacuum, clean windshield, service lavatory, etc.

  • Put coffee and ice on all aircraft leaving in the afternoon and evening. Recheck coffee and ice on all aircraft and replenish as necessary. Check snacks, napkins etc. and restock as necessary

  • Check hangar floor for oil and fuel spills. Scrub floors once or twice each week or more if necessary. Sweep floors in hangar as necessary. Empty hangar trash as necessary

  • Monitor flight schedule for planes arriving and departing. Assist flight crews and passengers with baggage, refueling and overall cleanliness of aircraft. Provide transportation for crew and/or passenger to mass transit, rental car and lodging

  • Monitor refueling of aircraft. Maintain fuel in crew cars and ground support equipment

  • Wash aircraft at the end of the flight day and ensure its cleanliness for the next flight day

  • Close and secure facility at the end of the day; lock doors, lights off, appliances, fans, activate security system, etc.
