Computer Systems Engineer/Analyst

Alabama Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company, is currently looking to hire a Computer Systems Engineer/Analyst for our Distribution Management Systems Department in Birmingham, Alabama. This position provides computer software engineering and system administration support for Distribution Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Systems, Distribution Management Systems (DMS), Outage Management Systems (OMS), ORACLE based historian systems, and other Smart Grid applications. This position will be filled at a level dependent upon the skills and experience of the successful candidate.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and implement software configuration and/or modifications of vendor delivered code.

  • Receive software applications from vendor and distribute to test environments for quality control and user acceptance.

  • Develop, document, and execute test procedures for software release.

  • Develop utilities and software tools for internal use as required.

  • Utilize problem solving skills to analyze, debug, mission critical software and determine effective solutions to multifaceted problems in a timely manner.

  • Perform system engineering and administration such as operating system configuration, patch release installation, system resource monitoring, and capacity planning.

  • Interfaces with internal network engineering, planning, and other support personnel.

  • Contribute to the support of the Distribution Management System 24x7 environment.

  • Develop SQL queries, command scripts, and generate reports as required.

Job Qualification Requirements

  • Possess experience with object oriented programming (such as C#, Java, Python, C ), asynchronous programming, XML, and code management utilization and administration.

  • Experience with SQL programming anddatabase administration.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • A BS degree in Engineering or Computer Science from an ABET accredited program is required.
