Corporate Accountant

Birmingham, AL

This position will be filled depending on the skills and abilities of the successful candidate. The primary responsibilities of this position will be to perform various accounting and administrative functions in relation to Alabama Property Company and associated joint ventures, with monthly financial close processes and other duties as assigned. Perform accounting, administrative, monthly close processes and audit coordination for Alabama Power Company’s charitable foundation and trust entities. Coordinate annual tax return filings for the foundation and trust. Preparation and routing of check requests will be required. Account analysis, review and preparation of monthly journal entries. Preparation of monthly and quarterly account reconciliations.

Experience & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required

  • Certified Public Accountant and/or Certified Management Accountant preferred

  • 5+ years of experience preferred in public accounting, industry or a combination of both

  • Experience with Oracle software platforms a plus

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Successful candidate must have the following skills and attributes:

  • Knowledge of applicable accounting rules and regulations, including ASC (FASB), SEC, FERC & IRS guidelines, and the ability to interpret and make recommendations

  • Strong analytical and communication skills – reconciliations, variance review, accounting application examination as well as good oral and written communication skills including ability to communicate accounting concepts with non-accounting

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and meet deadlines is required

  • Coordination of work assignments with the schedules and requirements of other employees is also a requirement

  • Must handle confidential and sensitive information

  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
