JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for engineering, implementing, and supporting Red Hat Linux server hardware platforms and operating systems. The successful candidate will need to have a strong experience and knowledge of Red Hat Linux deployment solutions, such as Red Hat Satellite and Red Hat Ansible/Tower, and related system software and tools such as VAS, NFS, SAMBA, DNS, etc. This is an operations and support organization and some after-hours work may be required.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
BS/BA in Computer Science or MIS is desired or equivalent work experience
Strong experience and knowledge of Red Hat Linux server hardware platforms and other components (CPU, clusters, storage area networks, disk and enterprise backup solutions)
Strong experience and knowledge of building, patching, and supporting Red Hat Linux server operating systems and associated software such as Red Hat Satellite and Red Hat Ansible/Tower
Strong experience and knowledge of Dell hardware and virtual Red Hat Linux servers running on VMWare
Working knowledge of Active Directory, VAS, NFS, SAMBA, DNS, DHCP
Knowledge of scripting for automation, Puppet and YUM are highly desired for the purpose of server provisioning and configuration drift management
Knowledge of security policies and how cyber security impacts the technology and power delivery industry
Ability to provide support for the implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance of Linux Operating Systems on virtual and physical platforms
General knowledge of Southern Company’s core business
Experience and knowledge utilizing IT incident and configuration change management tools such as Remedy
Ability to effectively organize tasks, manage multiple priorities/details, meet schedules, and deliver on customer commitments
Ability to operate in a regulatory environment which requires meticulous attention to detail with consistent adherence to compliance standards
Understanding of rules and regulations that govern the use of technology, such as NERC CIP and internal policies
Professional oral and written communication skills required especially pertaining to managing a regulatory environment, collecting evidence, and documenting potential noncompliance events
High level of demonstrated self-initiative and self-learner
Ability to communicate and work with all levels of management, vendors, and other internal and external groups
Ability to negotiate with and influence others - internally as well as vendors
Ability to build relationships and work in a team atmosphere as well as work independently, prioritizing major tasks by overall impact to the company
Ability to analyze information from multiple sources to determine best course of action
Ability to provide and accept feedback
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
Understanding of how activities impact functional budget

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Engineering, installation and maintenance of Unix/Linux server hardware, operating systems, and system software while following compliance and security standards, meeting project timelines, following documented processes and change procedures, and meeting customer requirements
Provide second level technical support to team members, customers, and other areas both within and outside of IT
Provide full life-cycle management for servers and system software
General knowledge of asset management tool(s) to ensure Unix/Linux inventory is accurate and up to date, including proper accounting information for billing
Diagnose and resolve other problems as able to meet service level expectations
Participate in departmental initiatives
Communicate progress, problems and best practices to management, team leads and teammates
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s in Computer Science or MIS strongly preferred; four (4) years of relevant technical experience is an acceptable substitute
A minimum of five (5) to eight (8) years of service (depending on job level), providing technical and organizational support for in-scope technologies. When relevant technical experience is substituted for a degree, the minimum experience requirement increases by four (4) years
Appropriate technology, security, and/or compliance certifications are highly desired
