Project Manager
The Utility Scale (“US”) RFP Project Manager is responsible for leading the procurement efforts of large renewable resources through long-term Power Purchase Agreements across the system valued at more than $10 Billion. The RFP Project Manager leads a large cross-functional team of internal stakeholders to conduct grid scale renewable resources procurements through formal Request for Proposals (“RFP”) in compliance with Alabama Power’s regulatory environment (to include PSC orders, as well as other Federal and State legislative and regulatory requirements). The RFP Project Manager provides indirect leadership and strategic direction to an evaluation team focused on balancing the commercial requirements of the development market in conjunction with the needs of Alabama Power’s customers. This position requires a demonstrated ability to effectively manage project teams and a general knowledge of utility operations, regulatory construct, project management, and complex technical and contractual issues.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Effectively lead a diverse project team focused on the accurate and efficient evaluation of utility scale resources.
Responsible for the strategy, design, issuance and execution of US RFPs through construction.
Proactively anticipate and solve complex issues around procurements, renewable integration, customer solutions, and “state of the market”.
Effectively communicate procurement status to Company leadership and other stakeholders.
Interact directly with the Public Service Commission (PSC) Staff relating to US initiatives, program/project status, required filings, data requests, and more.
Serve as a liaison between Generation Procurement and extensive internal partners including Regulatory Affairs, Legal, Environmental, Transmission Planning, Fleet Operations, AFT (Accounting, Finance, and Treasury), SCS Resource Planning, Customer Renewables, Internal and External Communications, and more, to ensure the successful design and execution of RFPs.
Partner with the US Manager to lead the development of the System’s US strategy with a keen focus on working effectively within Alabama’s regulatory environment
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
Undergraduate degree in engineering, business, finance or other technical/business areas. Advanced degrees preferred
Experience preferred in resource planning, utility operations, generation asset development, wholesale power markets, engineering, procurement, construction, power delivery, environmental and natural resources, commercial contract development, finance and financial modeling
Demonstrated experience leading, influencing and developing a cross-functional team to execute complex projects
