Reporting to the Project Manager, the R&D Senior Project Engineer will have two primary, complementary roles within the Advanced Energy Systems Research & Development group - Projects & Development. For the Projects role, the R&D Senior Project Engineer will primarily focus on management of projects related to the deployment of Generation IV nuclear reactor technologies. In this role, the ideal candidate should have demonstrated experience in developing projects using project management principles, performing technical project oversight, conceptual design of engineering systems, systems engineering, and technical review and analysis of experimental facilities. Additionally, a background in neutronics, chemistry, heat transfer, materials, sensors, manufacturing, power systems, robotics, and construction will be beneficial. The R&D Senior Project Engineer will support the execution of programmatic activities and drive projects to completion including the monitoring and controlling of project performance. This work will include collaboration with Reactor Designers, National Labs, Universities, DOE, and Industry. For the development role, the ideal candidate will provide support on cross-cutting generation technology development activities requiring knowledge of early project ideation and formation, funding mechanisms, proposal development, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have an engineering or science-related educational background, demonstrated, proven experience managing projects (including conceptual and research projects), and the expertise to support early development activities. The R&D Senior Project Engineer must be able to create and manage work scope definition across multiple organizations. The candidate must possess outstanding communication skills, be able to take initiative in executing project responsibilities, and successfully work across multiple organizations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS :

  • BS degree in an engineering or science related discipline plus >4 years of experience in the execution of research and development projects; or a MS/PhD in an engineering or science related discipline plus >2 years of experience in the execution of research and development projects

  • Project Management Professional certified (preferred but not required)

  • Creative problem-solving mindset with vision for intersection between business case and technology

  • Collaborate and work with cross-functional teams

  • Technology development planning and implementation

  • Strong critical thinking and investigative skills

  • Produce well-written technical reports and analysis

  • Clearly communicate and present technical information to clients, supervisor, and peers

  • Work in a culturally diverse environment

  • Authorization to work in the United States now and in the future (US Citizen OR Permanent Resident only )
