Talent Management Consultant


As a member of the Talent Management Team, the Talent Management Business Consultant will be responsible for designing and/or implementing high-impact talent management products and services related to the identification, assessment, development and retention of internal Southern Company talent. Specific deliverables include developing and delivering leadership development and employee enrichment programs; supporting continuous bench-strength and succession planning efforts; delivering detailed analysis of workforce trends; providing TM consultation to leaders and human resources partners; and coordinating various TM projects and assignments.

The TM Business Consultant reports to the Director, Talent Management.


  • Help support the engagement, growth, and retention of Southern Company employees by working closely with Talent Management leaders and the TM team to shape and carry out Southern Company Services' Talent Management framework

  • Leverage assessments, talent reviews, and various forms of input to help leaders identify high potential and technical talent

  • Work collaboratively with talent management, HR, and leadership to research, develop, coordinate and deliver leadership development and employee enrichment curriculum, as well as other learning opportunities outside of formal training (self-directed, micro-learning, learning bursts, shadowing, etc.)

  • Support the annual/ongoing talent identification and bench strength processes across the various organizations within Southern Company

  • Serve as an expert consultant and advisor, providing guidance and support to leadership and HR, regarding talent development

  • Partner with the HR analytics group to measure, monitor and track the health and progress of Southern Company’s workforce; serve as the SME to provide data and insights for routine and ad hoc talent management reporting

  • Evaluate the business impact of talent management activities to determine opportunities for enhancement and ongoing effectiveness

  • Work collaboratively with other TM consultants across Southern Company

  • Manage vendor relationships with TM service providers

  • Manage TM projects as assigned



  • Bachelor’s degree, in human resources or a related field preferred

  • Master’s degree in organizational development, human resources, business or a related field preferred

  • At least 3 years’ HR experience, specifically in talent management or organizational development; 5 years preferred

  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing talent management products or services, particularly focused on talent identification and assessments; succession planning including talent reviews; leadership and employee development; consulting; workforce analytics; and program management


  • Thorough knowledge of talent management and human resource disciplines, including industry standards and best practices

  • Strong knowledge of curriculum development and learning methods

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, convert data into meaningful intelligence, and develop programs/recommendations based on findings

  • Knowledge and application of technology used in data extraction and reporting

  • Ability to quickly build strong working relationships with peers and internal customers at all levels

  • Ability to handle confidential information

  • Ability to work in a team environment and demonstrate initiative and personal accountability

  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and ability to manage multiple tasks

  • Results orientation

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
