SCS – T&PS, Project Center of Excellence

This position will be located at the The Energy Center in Birmingham, AL


This position provides leadership, guidance and direction to the Metrics and Reporting Group. The group works with our operating companies as well as project and industry partners to develop and report consistent and meaningful performance metrics. This includes capital projects performance, industry benchmarking, transmission reliability and operational excellence performance, which require inputs to and/or coordination with NATF, NERC, TADS, and the Public Service Commissions.

The Metrics and Reporting Group also is responsible for:

  • Reporting contractor safety data

  • Performance reporting and executive reports for capital projects, including budgets, costs, schedules, commodity tracking, change management, and project progression

  • Supporting the development of annual reliability performance goals

  • Supporting coordination of metrics development and benchmarking within the industry and of some training for metrics and associated tools

The Team Leader’s responsibilities include providing financial reporting assistance to the Technical & Project Solutions (T&PS) leadership team and serving as liaison between T&PS and Supply Chain.


  • Maintain a total commitment to safety

  • Manage the selection, development and performance of metrics and reporting employees

  • Ensure the timeliness and accuracy of the metrics and reports

  • Participate in benchmarking phases as needed.

  • Participate in project governance activities as needed

  • Collaborate with other business units, project teams, and external entities

  • Support and maintain a strong and effective team environment within T&PS

  • Communicate at all levels of OPCOs and T&PS organizations


  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, a related field, or equivalent technical working experience required

  • Prior supervisory experience is preferred

  • PMP certification preferred

  • Working knowledge of Transmission, Distribution, and/or Generation operations is preferred

  • Working knowledge of either transmission or capital projects metrics and reporting and/or project management activities

  • Proven experience in written and verbal communications to all audiences

  • Experience in establishing, communicating and reporting performance metrics

  • Awareness of the importance and a working knowledge of benchmarking

  • Work well with diverse groups and tailor communications methods appropriately for targeted audience


  • This position will require some travel – approximately 25%

  • Some relocation assistance will be available if the successful candidate does not already live within a reasonable commute distance
