This position will be covered by the Memorandum of Agreement between Mississippi Power and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

JOB SUMMARY

Plant David M. Ratcliffe Generating Facility, a state-of-the-art Natural Gas Combined Cycle (NGCC) plant located in DeKalb, MS, is currently seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Station Operator.

This operator position performs duties as required to ensure reliable plant operation. Successful candidates must be able to support a 24/7 rotating schedule including holidays and overtime when required.

Job Requirements

  • Three or more years’ operations or maintenance experience in an industrial facility preferred.

  • As an alternative to experience a technical degree in electrical or instrumentation from an accredited educational institution or equivalent military technical training will be considered.

  • Power generation operations experience is preferred.

  • An electrical, mechanical, or instrumentation background is strongly preferred. Candidate must have the capability to train in either electrical or mechanical disciplines as a dual qualification requirement within the required line of progression.

  • Candidate must possess the ability to progress to control room operator within the required line of progression.

  • An in-depth knowledge and understanding to operate all traditional combined cycle power generation plant equipment. Specifically, but not limited to combustion turbines, steam turbines, pumps, and compressors will be beneficial to successful candidate.

  • This position will also perform real-time equipment assessments, perform Lockout/Tag out, and load and unload various types of trucks.

  • Successfully passing POSS/MASS pre-employment test.

  • Must be a self-starter capable of working with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to handle complex, time sensitive situations and be adaptable to a changing work environment.

  • Candidate must possess the ability to safely travel to remote generating locations using company provided vehicles and perform work tasks independently.

  • Must be able to support a 24/7 rotating schedule, including holiday and back shift work as a condition of employment.

  • Employee will be expected to participate and respond as a member of the facility Emergency Response Team (ERT) and will be trained in Fire, Rescue, Medical and Hazardous Materials Responses as a part of the normal job routine and will be required to attend regularly scheduled training and drills.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all work is done in a safe and efficient manner maintaining a Safety-First mindset.

  • Actively participate in safety audits and reviews for their work area.

  • Perform operations rounds, equipment setup, Lockout/Tagout, various truck unloading, and other plant operations duties.

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance.

  • Provide feedback to management regarding problems associated with plant equipment.

  • Work with system owners to address both short term and long-term issues affecting system performance and reliability.

  • Work with Planner/System Owner to prioritize all work orders within the system

  • Monitor performance/reliability trends using Ovation/EDS/OIS (if applicable)

  • Responsible for communication to oncoming shifts of unit conditions.
