Description
The primary duty of the Entry-Level Mechanical Designer is to provide basic mechanical design and engineering support for our Microgrid Mechanical Products such as low and medium voltage distributed energy resources (DERs) manufactured at our RTP and Randleman, NC facilities. This position will assist the overall team to meet the departmental mission of providing quality, timely, and safe designs and deliverables to all our customers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Work as part of the Microgrid Mechanical Engineering team for the modeling and creation of production drawing sets of the mechanical systems per specifications.
Provide engineering/design support for components and assemblies of the DI products including:
Generator Enclosures: Skintight steel interlocking panels, aluminum skinned stick-built enclosures, sound attenuating features.
Frame design: engine/alternator steel base frames, SCR/Silencer mounting frames, aluminum enclosure frames, enclosure steel base frames.
Fuel Tank Design: UL142 diesel fuel tank designs, including placement of nozzles, instrumentation, and other ancillary equipment. Switchgear frames, bussing, breaker support structures, lug pads, and other ancillary features.
Develop document set; including BOM, schematics, schedules, and other drawing details that will ensure the safe and efficient installation of this equipment. Ensure drawings are as-built, documents and manuals are filed on the server for use in O&M development.
Develop CAD models to automatically drive complete BOMs in PDM software with proper product structures, assortments, and other metadata.
Interface with design team for placement and code clearances of electrical and mechanical equipment.
Assist with Product Development initiatives including new component design, fitment, etc.
Design for Manufacturability, reliability, field maintainability.
Identify and execute processes that may reduce the overall cost to manufacture, install and operate our electrical infrastructure systems located on our generator and switchgear enclosure products.
Minimum Qualifications:
(2) Year Degree in Mechanical Design or related field. In lieu of a degree, a combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered.
Familiar with 3-D CAD software, preferably AutoDesk Inventor.
Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, including collaborating with other teams and providing constructive feedback.
Detail-oriented and accurate with a positive can-do attitude.
Ability to critically analyze problems and develop effective solutions
Excellent time management, leadership, organization, and prioritization skills.
Ability to travel occasionally (10%-15%) times per year.
