PowerSecure has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Consulting Engineer to join our team as the technical resource for the Energy Efficiency Services sales team in pre-sales and early contract work, verifying project scope, costing, studies, technical writing application and client design intent. The Engineer will remain involved with projects post-sale as an Engineering Project Manager and system technical resource. Position located in Durham, NC, or may work remotely.


  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical degree. PE License preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a mechanical consulting or application engineer.

  • Ability to develop Requests for Proposal documents (RFPs).

  • Review of third-party specifications, drawings or customer requests to determine project scope, schedule, risk and all technical delivery requirements when responding to RFPs.

  • Ability to develop concept drawings sets and specifications, including mechanical diagrams and drawings, equipment schedules, P&I diagrams and drawings, site layouts, and heat balance diagrams.

  • Proficient commercial and industrial mechanical systems knowledge, application analysis and estimating skills.

  • Thorough understanding of cogeneration applications and equipment, including heat balance and cost/benefit analysis.

  • Code and guideline interpretation and application (ASHRAE, NFPA, IBC, et al).

  • Perform post contract award functions as Engineering Project Manager, including subcontractor RFP development, PowerSecure submittal development support and document control, Third-party Submittal (shop drawing) reviews, RFI management, consulting contract development/review, project close-out document support, and engineering document change management.

  • Be a technical liaison for the Sales and Construction teams.
