Summary of Position Duties:
This position will be responsible for supporting and working with the GPC Condition Based Monitoring (CBM) Equipment. This will include, but not limited to the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of the CBM monitors and associated communications systems located in GPC equipment across the state. CBM monitors include transformer dissolved gas analysis, bushing and IR monitors, breaker monitors, battery monitors and any future monitoring that may be developed. This position will work closely with SCS Monitoring and Diagnostic (M&D) Group, CBM equipment manufacturers and the TMC’s to build out and maintain the GPC CBM system. Other duties include assisting in failure investigations, supporting repair/replacement, providing expertise to CBM program, providing performance evaluations, and developing and delivering CBM training.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Total commitment to the safety.
Installation and commissioning CBM equipment and associated communications equipment.
Establish communications between CBM equipment and CBM systems and SCS M&D center.
Provide oversight and support of venders performing installation, troubleshooting, repair, and commissioning of monitors.
Ensuring substation drawings get updated to reflect the additions of CBM equipment.
Troubleshooting and repair of CBM equipment and associated communication equipment.
Evaluating new technologies and equipment for use at GPC/Southern Company.
Provide feedback to monitoring vendors and internal CBM groups.
Provide direction to GPC and SoCo CBM programs.
Understanding of equipment construction and maintenance practices so value of monitoring can be evaluated.
Perform and interpret infrared scans of equipment.
Understanding of dissolved gas analysis of power transformers.
B.S. degree in Engineering (Electrical Engineering preferred)
Minimum of 5 years of experience in maintenance and/or installation substation equipment and/or installation and maintaining CBM equipment. - Field experience in Substation Maintenance including maintenance procedures and testing, equipment troubleshooting, and/or electronic device configuration and/or installation and maintaining CBM equipment is preferred
Job Experience Requirements
Substation experience is a plus.
Travel in the service area will be required.
Current NERC CIP access or the ability to obtain NERC CIP access is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to quickly learn and understand new technologies is required.
Experience with electronic controls and communications systems is a preferred.
Knowledge of substation equipment installation, commissioning, testing, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting is preferred.
Knowledge of the Southern Company Transmission Substation Maintenance Program.
Excellent organizational and time management skills and the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously with a high degree of efficiency is a must.
Experience with mechanical systems including piping and pressure vessels is a plus.
Proficient in the use of software used to communicate with intelligent electronic devices.
Expertise in MS Access queries and database management a plus.
Expertise in Ethernet and serial communications a plus.
Experience in SoCo substation equipment maintenance practices is preferred.
