Summary of Position Duties:

This position will be responsible for supporting and working with the GPC Transmission Maintenance Centers to ensure reliability of the Substation facilities. This will include, but is not limited to the development, prioritization, implementation, coordination, and financial oversight of GPC Substation Infrastructure Capital Projects. Work to ensure TEAMS estimates adequately reflect the work which needs to be performed in advance of the fiscal spending year. Provide guidance to PM and Design organizations on scope definition. Work with the Grid Team to maintain efficient coordination of capital projects. This position will work closely with T&PS Transmission Design, GPC Transmission Maintenance Centers, Project Management, and Budgeting/Accounting to effectively manage the Capital Infrastructure Improvement Budget. Other duties include support of facility inspections, asset management, emergency restoration efforts, and projects to improve work practices and reduce cost. This position will create TEAMS Capital Projects for TMCs as needed.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Total commitment to safety.

  • Coordinate with the Transmission Maintenance Centers (TMCs) and Substation Support to select and prioritize Infrastructure Capital projects statewide to maximize reliability and minimize system risk.

  • Assure TEAMS estimates adequately reflect the work which needs to be performed in advance of the fiscal spending year.

  • Support the development and loading of the annual infrastructure capital budget into Oracle Projects.

  • Work with accounting to provide monthly budget variance explanations and reporting.

  • Effectively manage and control “Scope Creep” after projects are approved.

  • Act as the liaison between the TMCs, Substation Support, Project Management organization, accounting, and T&PS Engineering (Design) for all changes in project scope.

  • Continually refine the Outdoor & Indoor Substation Scoping Documents with reliability as the focus.

  • Submit requests for new Retirement Units Codes (RUC) to GPC Property Accounting as needed to reduce O&M expenses.

  • Support decisions on projects to be deferred in order to manage within the budget or comply with mid-year budget reduction or increases requests from GPC management.

  • Coordinate the creation of TEAMS work orders and Substation Design transmittals to assist the TMCs with equipment failures.

  • Create projects in support of proactive equipment replacement programs for Transformers, Breakers, Batteries, Animal Protection, Switch House roofs, CCVTs, etc.

  • Provide support to the GPC Transmission Maintenance Centers (TMCs) and Substation Support on special projects.

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with TMCs, Substation Construction, Substation Engineering Design and Estimating, Distribution and Transmission Planning, Project Management, and Operations.

  • TERP On Call support

  • Respond to emergency and scheduled events outside normal work hours, including support for major storms.

Education Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Engineering preferred.

  • Accounting and Financial background a plus

  • P.E. License preferred.

Job Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years’ combined experience in Transmission Maintenance, P&C FS, Substation Design, and/or Substation Estimating.

  • Experience in Substation Maintenance and/or T&PS Design Project Estimating is preferred.

  • Experience with TEAMS, STOMP, TransMap, and SCST Vault required.

  • Strong TEAMS experience creating estimates, Project Items, and Work Orders preferred.

  • Experience with financial/accounting systems Maximo, Sofia, PowerPlan, and Budworks a plus.

  • Familiarity with GPC and/or Southern Company budgeting processes a plus.

  • Project Management experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of Substation Design Criteria Standards and GPC Substations Project Scoping Documents and the ability to effectively apply each toward the allocation of the infrastructure capital budget.

  • Knowledge of the Southern Company Transmission Substation Maintenance Program.

  • Experience and knowledge of the Transmission and Distribution system electric operating practices, design practices, construction practices, land requirements, budgeting, scheduling, and general business practices.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills and the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously with a high degree of efficiency is a must.

  • Communicate through clear and concise reports, well-organized presentations, and one-on-one discussions.

  • Must possess analytical skills and knowledge to manage risk in a strained budget environment to apply Capital dollars in the most efficient manner.

  • Proficient in the use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS.
