WORK LOCATION & TRAVEL

  • This position will support the Alabama and Mississippi coastal area and is flexible to be located in either Gautier, MS or Mobile, AL.

  • Some relocation assistance may be available if the successful candidate does not already live within a reasonable commute distance.

  • This position will require some daytrip and overnight travel (approximately 25%, several days to a week or more at a time). Some plant site work (outside or inside).

POSITION SUMMARY

In this position you will develop technical procedures, training curriculum, and individual lessons and conduct classroom and skills training for craft classifications (Mechanical Apprentices and Journeyman) and other personnel in the mechanical area for fossil/hydro/CC generating plants. You will also have the opportunity to manage special projects and provide training solutions for plant issues, working with other Southern Company Generation (SCG) Subject Matter Experts (SME). This position works in a fast paced, "hands on" environment, requiring the ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and problem solve. You must be a self-starter who can multi-task and work well with little supervision. The job will require some travel to various plant sites when requested.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience:

  • Technical or B.S. degree in related field desired. Suitable job experience will be accepted.

  • Specific experience working in power generation and/or heavy industrial plant mechanical maintenance is required (experience can include working directly at a plant OR indirectly supporting the plant)

  • Five (5) years as a Journeyman or specialist level work experience in Mechanical Maintenance strongly preferred.

  • Experience delivering technical training strongly preferred.

  • Experience in consulting with others to determine appropriate solutions to performance problems.

  • Experience operating small equipment (i.e., skid steers, mobile crane, aerial lift, overhead crane, etc.) strongly preferred.

  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credentials preferred.

  • Aerial lift, forklift and rigging certification preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and ability to safely perform all job tasks associated with mechanical maintenance including precision measurement, pump repair, valve and piping system maintenance.

  • Exceptional technical writing, communications, facilitation, presentation and relationship management skills.

  • Familiar with, and able to use, training development procedures including analysis, design, implementation, and evaluation of training.

  • Analytical ability regarding job and task analysis.

  • Ability to work with little supervision in office and plant settings.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with plant and other employee development personnel to accurately determine needs and devise and recommend appropriate solutions.

  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft tools - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.

  • Apply various aspects of adult education, including classroom, on-the-job, self-paced instruction, and other educational technologies as related to specific content.

  • GTAW (Tig) and SMAW (Stick) welding proficiency.
