Financial Analyst, I , II, III & Sr
This position is to provide financial services to support the goals and objectives of the Financial Planning and Analysis department of Virginia Natural Gas. The focus is on value creation by engaging in analysis, identification of issues, support of the Financial Plan and implementation of strategy with timely and accurate management reporting.
This position is being posted as part of a job family. The position may be filled at either the Financial Analyst, I (Level 2), Financial Analyst, II (Level 3), Financial Analyst, III (Level 4) or Sr. Financial Analyst (Level 5). Individuals who demonstrate advanced skills in terms of work experience and education may be eligible for the advanced grade.
Assist in maintenance and preparation of corporate Financial Plan and annual budget
Assess financial performance against target, including risks and opportunities to the Plan
Maintain and assist in development of corporate Financial Model, along with other financial models and tools
Support rate case preparation and regulatory strategy
Develop and execute strategies to meet the company’s overall financial objective.
Provide support to internal departments on budget issues; runs reports, answers questions, provides support, guidance and service
Participates on special projects as requested
Analyzes financial and non-financial data to help drive business decisions
Articulates results, variances and key drivers effectively
Develops recommendations and alternatives to meet objectives
Demonstrates knowledge of the business and industry in analyses
Fosters relationships with managers, peers, customers and is a team player
Communicates effectively with all levels of business
Influences business decisions by sharing analyses and expertise
Monitors results versus plan and works with business leaders to achieve desired results
Identifies process and/or profit improvements
- BS/BA degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or other requiring application of analytical techniques
MBA or CPA/CFA
Energy company experience
Demonstrated experience using a budgeting forecasting tool (e.g. Hyperion)
Related Work Experience:
Financial Analyst I
- Up to 2 years’ experience in financial planning, financial analysis, regulatory planning, and/or accounting or related fields
Financial Analyst II
- 2-4 year’s experience in financial planning, financial analysis, regulatory planning, and/or accounting or related fields
Financial Analyst III
- 4-6 year’s experience in financial planning, financial analysis, regulatory planning, and/or accounting or related fields
Senior Financial Analyst
7 year’s experience in financial planning, financial analysis, regulatory planning, and/or accounting or related fields
Experience working with senior executive’s individual and team basis
Applicant may possess a combination of equivalent education and work experience.
Specific Skills & Knowledge:
Ability to handle multiple projects with changing priorities
Ability to work independently yet keep management informed as appropriate
Intermediate proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint
Strong analytical and financial modeling skills
Understanding of PeopleSoft/Financial systems and databases
Strong attention to detail
Ability to work across a matrix organization structure with horizontal and vertical teams
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles(GAAP)
