This posting serves to fill three (3) Principal Trainer positions as follows:
Principal Trainer (Distribution) at GPC
Principal Trainer (P&C Field Services) at GPC
Principal Trainer (P&C Field Services) at APC
Locations :
GPC Klondike Training Center, Stonecrest, Georgia
APC General Services Complex, Power Delivery Training Center, Calera, AL
Job Level: Exempt Grade 7
JOB SUMMARY
These positions are responsible for the successful development, validation, and delivery of technical training programs for Power Delivery employees in engineering job families (Distribution or P&C Field Services). In addition to the respective business unit, the positions will support overall transmission and distribution cross-functional training efforts.
These positions are responsible for managing engineering training and working with vendors and So Co SMEs who deliver courses in the Distribution or P&C Field Services Training Programs. These positions will partner with applicable committees, i.e., Technical Progression Committee, Engineering Supervisor Roundtables, Power Delivery Systems and Standards, as well as appropriate operating company peers to deliver quality and innovative training to better prepare our employees for Power Delivery positions and rotations. Positions will interface with management/employees in the field to stay abreast of customer needs and consistently champion safety.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS – P&C Field Services (GPC & APC)
Knowledge of Substation design and standards – physical and control
Knowledge of the operating philosophy of the system and fault data analysis
Experience and technical knowledge of Power Delivery equipment including switches, breakers, transformers, relay schemes, voltage regulators, automation devices, SCADA, fault data equipment, etc.
Knowledge of carrier, pilot relaying, test equipment, relaying, control techniques and equipment
Knowledge of policies, procedures, & regulatory requirements related to applicable work practices including OSHA, DOT, HAZCOM, Labor Relations, Human Resources, etc.
Knowledge of Instructional System Design (ISD) concepts and evaluation procedures used to enhance the development, presentation, and maintenance of training programs is a plus
Effective oral & written communication skills
Strong project management skills
JOB QUALIFICATIONS – Distribution (GPC)
Knowledge of substations, transmission and/or distribution design

Knowledge of policies, procedures, & regulatory requirements related to applicable work practices including OSHA, DOT, HAZCOM, Labor Relations, Human Resources, etc.
Knowledge and experience in Distribution Engineering Design, Reliability and/or Power Quality
Knowledge of NESC and NEC
Knowledge of Instructional System Design (ISD) concepts and evaluation procedures used to enhance the development, presentation, and maintenance of training programs is a plus
Effective oral & written communication skills
Strong project management skills
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Engineering degree from a four-year accredited university or Professional Engineer’s license is preferred.
Five (5) years P&C application, P&C field services or Distribution Engineering experience preferred
Previous experience as a trainer or curriculum developer is preferred
Extensive experience with electric system construction, maintenance, and operating procedures
Excellent presentation and communication skills (oral and written)
Computer skills (Microsoft TEAMS, PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook), experience with hybrid learning modes is a plus
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Work closely with the operating company Power Delivery Training teams to manage budgets, share facilities/resources and support Power Delivery workforce training
Facilitate or teach training classes and serve as technical subject matter expert (SME) for training
Oversee and direct the development and delivery of training programs to ensure safe and productive work habits
Work as a team with managers, supervisors and other team members.
Support Power Delivery training system-wide standardization efforts.
Partner with Power Delivery Safety to ensure consistency and curriculum alignment and SCS Power Delivery Support to enhance training curriculum and provide innovative curriculum delivery
Coordinate/schedule vendors and/or Power Delivery SMEs to teach specialized classes and work with support staff to ensure training class logistics are met.
As needed, work with HR Workforce Planning as consultant for SoCo engineer recruitment programs
Support storm restoration efforts
