Summary of Position Duties

Southern Nuclear, a subsidiary of Southern Company, manages and operates six nuclear power electric generating plants that provide approximately 20 percent of the electricity used in Alabama and Georgia. Southern Nuclear is leading the nuclear renaissance by building the first new U.S. nuclear reactors in more than 25 years. When completed, the two Westinghouse AP1000 reactors currently under construction at Plant Vogtle will make the facility the largest in the U.S. with four reactors on one site. Management reserves the right to exclude job applicants who are currently employed by contractors and vendors supporting the construction of Vogtle units 3 and 4. Due to the scope and breadth of the Vogtle 3&4 construction project, candidates currently employed by Southern Company/Southern Nuclear construction vendors may not be considered at this time .

This position will prepare, develop and maintain the O&M and Capital Budgets for Maintenance. This includes analyzing actual expenditures, preparing year end projections and tracking all activities associated with the department labor (company and contract), requisitions, material issues and returns, procurement card purchases, business expense statements, loaned outage employees, outage costs and contractor manpower.

Additional responsibilities include the following:

  • Monitor work orders, invoices, and purchase orders to ensure proper expense allocation (O&M vs Capital).

  • Serves as liaison between Maintenance and Financial Operations, ensuring that financial matters are researched and communicated in a timely manner.

  • Ensures alignment between Maintenance spending and prior cost commitments.

  • Assist the department with contract service / labor requests, purchase orders, change orders, and contractor evaluation reports.

Job Requirements


  • High School diploma or GED is required

  • Associates degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related degree is required / Bachelor's degree preferred

  • 3 years related work experience is required


  • 5 years related work experience is preferred

  • Experience in power plant budgeting process or other publicly held company is preferred

  • Experience with Sofia, Maximo, Oracle, and PowerPlant software is preferred

  • Capital and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) knowledge is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Well organized and capable of handling multiple priorities simultaneously

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Strong problem solving skills

  • Proactive in problem identification and resolution

  • Computer literacy to operate comfortably among MS Word, Excel, Sofia, Maximo, Oracle, and PowerPlant software
