Job Description

The Project Manager Gatekeeper will be responsible for overseeing and managing the gate transition process for Transmission projects, ensuring that all project documentation, reviews, and approvals are completed before advancing to the next gate. This role serves as a critical control point for maintaining project governance, reducing risks, and ensuring adherence to regulatory and organizational requirements. They will collaborate closely with Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, Cost Analysts, Governance, and other team members to provide feedback, identify risks, and ensure that project plans are accurate, comprehensive, and ready for execution.

Job experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field

  • Advanced degree and/or CPA/PE/PMP certification is a plus

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage the transition between project gates, ensuring all necessary documentation is submitted, reviewed, and approved.

  • Conduct reviews at project gate transitions to ensure compliance with internal standards and readiness for the next phase.

  • Review project plans for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with timelines, risk management, scope, constructability, and budget criteria.

  • Provide timely feedback to project teams to address gaps or issues early in the project lifecycle.

  • Identify potential project risks and documentation gaps, escalating issues as needed.

  • Track project status across all gates and provide regular reports to leadership on significant risks, delays, or documentation issues.

  • Drive continuous improvement by participating in feedback loops, implementing lessons learned, and adjusting processes accordingly.

  • Serve as a liaison between project teams, management, and governance, clearly communicating bottlenecks, needs, and requests for additional information before advancing to the next gate.

  • Identify and assess project risks during gate reviews, recommending and monitoring the implementation of risk mitigation strategies.

  • Provide guidance and training to project managers and teams on the gate review process, criteria, and best practices to ensure successful progression.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong project management experience with a solid understanding of the gated process.

  • Proficient in reviewing project documentation, identifying risks, and ensuring compliance with processes.

  • Creative problem solver with attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

  • Proficient in Excel and other Microsoft Office applications; experience with data tools such as Microsoft Power BI or Tableau is a plus

  • Effective communication skills with the ability to present data and analysis results both graphically and verbally to diverse audiences.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and provide constructive feedback.

  • Capable of working independently without direct supervision.

  • Embrace and champion change with a positive attitude; manage shifting priorities and deadlines.

  • Understands that after-hours response may occasionally be required due to customer needs, project schedules, storm restoration, or unforeseen circumstances.
