Technical Training Instructor - Electrical (GPO Program)

JOB SUMMARY

The Technical Training Instructor is responsible for providing leadership and technical development while fostering a safe and effective learning environment for internal GPC technical employees. High initiative and self-motivation are key as this person will develop, deliver, and evaluate electrical training courses, training aids, and other necessary materials for Southern Company Generation's General Plant Operator (GPO) program. This individual will actively collaborate in a team environment with other technical trainers and SMEs across the Southern Company System to align training with SCS organizational goals. Additionally, this person will partner with vendors, schools, and consultants to ensure cost-effective, high-quality training.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Provide leadership to students in a classroom/lab environment focused on safety culture, job knowledge, and work ethic.

Technical degree and/or Journeyman/Specialist level work experience in the electrical field.

Demonstrated technical writing, communications, facilitation, presentation, and relationship management skills.

Experience delivering technical training in power generation preferred.

Collaborates effectively within a team setting.

Experienced with AC and DC theory, solid state devices, relay logic, PLCs, electrical valve actuators, back-up battery systems, hand or power tools for electrical systems.

Minimum of five (5) years of work experience as a Journeyman Electrician, GPO, or Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician.

Operations and Maintenance experience in Power Plant or Paper Mill area highly preferred.

Computer proficiency with Microsoft tools - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Apply various training tools and aids within the power generation organizations.

Use performance analysis and consulting skills to identify knowledge/skills gaps and develop learning strategies to resolve them.

Engage in curriculum planning and development, training design and development with plant SMEs. Includes specification of learner outcomes (goals and objectives), content specification, and design, selection of instructional delivery formats, strategies and media, materials, and ensuring course continuity.

Apply various aspects of adult education, including classroom, on-the-job, self-paced instruction, and other educational technologies as related to specific content.

Schedule, organize and report training reports and rosters.

Manage costs and expenses within budget.
