Treasury Project Manager – Liquidity Solutions

JOB SUMMARY:

The Treasury Project Manager manages daily Liquidity Desk activities for Southern Company and its subsidiaries. The Liquidity Desk manages daily liquidity through commercial paper borrowings and short-term investments, representing the Southern Company system to Wall Street investment banks, Investment Managers, and treasury vendors. This role works closely with multiple groups, including Treasury Operations, Capital Markets, and Financial Planning to forecast and manage short to medium-term cash positions and liquidity needs. To perform these duties, the candidate must quickly gain and maintain a broad understanding of the Company’s cash flows, in addition to broadly understanding financial markets and short-term liquidity products. Activities include short to medium-term liquidity forecasting and management for Southern Company and its subsidiaries. This role is required to perform multiple financial controls, and the successful candidate must exhibit significant diligence, attention to detail, and strong communication skills. The Liquidity Desk also provides support for the Cash Operations team as well as other teams in SCS Treasury (capital markets, banking, credit monitoring and derivatives).

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

  • Candidate should possess a BS/BA degree in economics, finance, math, accounting, engineering or related field of study required

  • A master’s degree, CPA, Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) or other relevant degrees / certifications a plus.

Experience:

  • Minimum five (5+) years in finance, accounting, or treasury functions. required

  • Cash management or liquidity solutions experience, including treasury workstation experience, in a large corporate setting preferred

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong financial analysis skills and a demonstrated ability to apply those skills to a variety of issues to reach reasonable, well thought out conclusions / recommendations.

  • Ability to broadly understand the Company’s business and operations to effectively forecast and manage changing liquidity needs.

  • Ability to broadly understand the Company’s changing business needs and changes in markets / products to effectively improve processes and operate efficiently.

  • Experience using Kyriba or other treasury workstation software a huge plus

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills – both oral and written

  • A demonstrated aptitude for working with computer systems and proficiency with Microsoft Excel is important.

  • Strong background knowledge in finance and accounting is essential, including the principles of strong internal controls.

  • Ability to balance strong customer-service with the efficient management of resources is required.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute daily Liquidity Desk activities (liquidity management for multiple Southern Company entities, including commercial paper issuance and short-term investments).

  • Short to medium-term liquidity forecasting.

  • Ongoing development of Liquidity Desk through monitoring of marketplace for products and best practices, recommending updates to investment policies and managing commercial paper dealer performance.

  • Support the Treasury Operations team, including management back up responsibilities.

  • Compliance with internal controls.

  • Assessment and implementation of new commercial bank products and processes.

  • Monitor bank services, including fees and service levels.

  • Assist other Treasury teams (capital markets, derivatives, credit monitoring) as required.
